Summary
The St Vincent de Paul Society was prominent in the child rescue activities of the Catholic Church in Victoria from the 1880s. Charles Grondona was a prominent Melbourne lay person involved with the Society, including its administration of St Joseph's Home for Destitute Children.
Details
The first Australian conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society met in Melbourne at St Francis' Church on 5 March 1854. The first president was Fr Gerald Ward.
